Haseki Hospital was
built in 1550 by Mimar Sinan. The hospital was put into service as a general
treatment institution named Haseki Sultan Hospital and was allocated to women
in 1843. It gained the status of a full-fledged hospital in 1870 and became a Municipal
Hospital in 1880. It was damaged twice due to the earthquake in 1894 and fire
in 1918, and the governor of the period, Lütfi Kırdar, repaired the hospital in
1946 and put it into operation again in 1948.
SBU Haseki Education and
Research Hospital Otorhinolaryngology Clinic is one of Turkey's oldest and
well-established clinics and since July 2019 also serves in Sultangazi campus.
The hospital continued its educational and research activities from time to
time as a single clinic and from time to time as two clinics. İsmail Hakkı
Tokatlı and Muzaffer Öktem worked together as the first and second clinic
chiefs. The first stapes surgery and microsurgery in Turkey were made by
Muzaffer Öktem in Haseki Hospital.
Between 1978-1987, Doğan
Kuntay served as a chef for many years. Mehmet Ömür and Turgay Han worked
together as the first and second clinic chiefs. Osman Karaaslan in 2002 and
Orhan Özturan between 2005-2010 served as the first and second clinic chiefs.
Between 2010 and 2012, Murat Haluk Özkul served as the chief of the 1st clinic
and Osman Karaaslan as the 2nd clinic chief. Between 2012 and 2015, Murat Haluk
Özkul served as education and administrative responsible. Since 2015, Reşit
Murat Açıkalın has served as the administrative responsible and Hüsamettin
Yaşar as the education responsible.
We have 16 rooms and a
total of 25 beds in the ENT clinic. In Sultangazi Campus, 5 polyclinics are
served between 08:30 and 16:30 every day. There are 5 examination units, 5
endoscopic examination units, 1 examination microscope, 1 video stroboscopy
unit, 1 VNG, and a small intervention room in the polyclinic. There is an
Audiology Laboratory (Hearing tests) and a Newborn Hearing Screening Unit.

Polyclinic and 3 ENT Polyclinics in Haseki Campus Polyclinic Building between
08.30 - 16.30 hours every day. There are 3 examination units, 3 endoscopic
examination units, one examination microscope, an audiology (hearing) and
balance laboratory, and one small intervention room in the polyclinic.
In our hospital, there are operating tables allocated to two ENT clinics
every day. In our clinic, autology (ear) surgeries (tympanoplasty,
tympanomastoidectomy, radical mastoidectomy, stapes surgery), head and neck
cancer surgery, septoplasty (nasal cartilage curvature) surgery, sleep apnea,
and snoring surgery, thyroid surgery, salivary gland surgery, chronic sinusitis
operations and adenoid surgery Child ENT operations such as (adenoid, tonsils)
are performed. In the outpatient clinics of our clinic, advanced evaluations
are performed with all kinds of diagnostic and flexible
nasopharyngolaryngoscopy devices in routine ENT examination. All kinds of
audiological tests are performed in our clinic.
In our clinic, the emphasis is placed on assistant training as practical
and theoretical training, as well as patient services. General visit once a
week, chief resident visit every day, article hour one day and seminar once a
week are held. In addition, case reports of problematic and rare patients are
made at the time of the article. In addition to all these, 15-20 national and
international publications are published annually in our clinic. As a whole
team, we make every effort to raise the education, service, and scientific
level of our clinic to a higher level with each passing day.
