aspects: (basic) scientific in terms of understanding disease and health; İt is
primarily as in curative medicine and accordance with the general purpose of
medicine (especially to assist in diagnosis), scientific and practical
knowledge Students, etc.) at all educational levels.
History:
The history of
Haseki Pathology Clinic is old as the history of pathology. In our country,
Haseki’s first official pathologist is Akil Muhtar Ozden. When he took this
post around 1910, he was a health science teacher at the medical school
“Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Mulkiye” in Kadıiga (district of Istanbul). Since his
specialties in medical branches were not separated in this period, he was given
the title of “Teshisi Marazi ve Hurdebini” (diagnosis and microbiology), so he
was also a Bacteriology specialist. Muhtar Özden is the first person to perform
an autopsy in our hospital and among all city hospitals. After Akil Muhtar, the
pathological examinations of the hospital were carried out by Lutfi Aksu, the
Pathologist of Gülhane, for a long time. Halis, a student of Hamdi Suat Aknar,
adopted his traditional method of study and created a museum with 373 pieces
assembled under his name. Unfortunately, there is nothing left from this
museum.
Our hospital
serves our patients with its laboratory where necessary tests are performed for
the diagnosis and treatment of medical and surgical problems and currently
trains pathology specialists serving all over the country. In our department,
more than 30.000 smears, small and medium biopsies, organ resections, perinatal
autopsies are examined and reported annually.
